Longer climb between Podvelka in Fala!

Due to the longer climb between Podvelka and Fala, we recommend for some cyclists to take the train (adapted for cyclist), which runs every day, Monday to Friday and Sunday. During the summer months a cycling train is scheduled on Saturday. The train has space for up to 23 bicycles. The ride takes 17 minutes.

A new 900 m section of cycling route in Podvelka municipality

In cooperation with the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency (DRSI), the Podvelka Municipality in August 2018 rearranged 900 m of separated paved cycling route in Brezno. This section is a new planned part of the Drava Cycling Route, which will take place directly along the Drava River.

Variant through Starše

The Drava Cycling Route has a new, 30-kilometre long section between Maribor and Ptuj, which runs along the right river bank through Miklavž, Starše and Hajdino. The new stage is a more gradual and more traffic-friendly alternative to the existing section that leads through Malečnik and Duplek.

The river Drava has its own festival and its King of the Drava!

The 3rd Drava Festival, which will last until July 15th, 2018, will offer more than 70 educational, environmental and recreational-tourist events organised by various associations and organisations on and along the Drava River. The entire festival programme can be found at www.dravafestival.si.

The new King of the Drava turned out to be ornithologist Dr. Damijan Denac, Director of DOPPS-Birdlife Slovenia and LIVE DRAVA project manager, who, together with his partners, contributed to the restoration of the river ecosystem of the lowland part of the Drava River in Slovenia.

Road closure at the Markovci dam

Until March 31st, 2019, in the settlement of Markovci, the Markovci dam will be completely closed due to the placement of a new layer of road. The detour for cyclists is arranged through the centre of the village of Markovci.

Minister of Infrastructure visited the Drava Cycling Route

Minister of Infrastructure, Dr. Peter Gašperšič, visited the Drava Cycling Route on April 6th, 2018, during regular visits on the field by bicycle, at which Slovenian Infrastructure Agency (DRSI) this year finished setting up new information boards.

Novelty in 2018 - Inclusion of HPP Fala and Selnica ob Dravi

In 2018, the Drava Cycling Route became 7 km richer with a new route. Cyclists can now cross the Fala HPP and cycle on the Apple Trail (Jabolčna pot) in Selnica ob Dravi and further towards Ruše. This new part is an extremely attractive route that allows the cyclist to ride over the Fala HPP, a landmark unique to Slovenia.

Roadblock in Dravče

In the settlement Dravče due to the placement of new layer of road, there is a complete roadblock until May 22nd, 2018. Detour for cyclists is arranged through Gortina and Muta.

Due to repairs, the bridge across Drava in Vuhred is closed until 30 May 2018.

Signpost renovation

At the end of 2017, the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency replaced the signposts along the 145 kilometre Slovenian section of the Drava Cycling Route between Austria and Croatia. In total, over 400 signposts were either replaced or newly placed, thus ensuring high-quality directions for cyclists along the Drava Cycling Route.
